Our customer, a large shipping management company established in Limassol, Cyprus, provides a complete range of services, including onboard and offshore technical support, crew management, HSSE, vetting, commercial and shipbuilding design, project management and others.
As a reputable ship manager, it needed to comply with the requirements of the TMSA chapter 13 and VIQ7, with an objective to increase its cybersecurity defence framework, as well as modernize its network and security infrastructure with a unified policy and centralized management solution. At the same time, core applications like email, telephone services and WiFi needed to be provided securely and reliably to all users.
Logicom Solutions, with years of experience in the areas of networking and cybersecurity, identified those needs as well as all risks and security gaps, upon a thorough investigation and review of the customer’s environment. Logicom Solutions, worked closely with the IT department of the customer to put together a mitigation plan and started working on its execution.
The first component of the solution worth mentioning, is the centralized Cisco Unified Communication Manager which was implemented in order to have a central point to effectively manage and offer secure and reliable telephone services on board the vessels under management. In addition, Cisco Next Generation Firewalls with an Intrusion Prevention System along with the Cisco Unified Wireless Solution was implemented on the vessels under management. These components offered VPN connectivity and enhanced security, managed wireless internet access and provided a complete cyber-attack security defence system.
